In light of The Last Guardian getting delayed again, I think a lot of publishers and developers could stand to return to their roots.

In the movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still, the alien came from a civilization that created near invincible robots to keep them under control. The civilization prospered and advanced within the limits they placed upon themselves. They limited actions they could take.

My point being these big players should just return to using NES dev kits, they should look towards SNES dev kits, pick up a PS1 Dev kit. Some of the best games out there were created under some of the strictest limitations.

Super Mario World is often considered incomplete by Miyamoto because content had to be removed. Final Fantasy 6's soundtrack pushed the limits of music you could make with beeps and boops. Metal Gear Solid, that had creativity spilling over the edge but the PS1 could only take so much. It goes without saying many games were virgin cruises for the ps1 and N64 because the technology was still in it's infancy.

So I think it would be cool if the big developers would take a step back and think big in a smaller space. I'm looking at you Square Enix. I'm looking at YOU Nintendo. I'm looking at you CAPCOM. I'm looking at you Konami(But unlike the other guys you can still go f*ck yourself).
